Welcome to my Here’s Jack Blogathon 2017…

Wait no longer as heeeeere’s the first day of the Here’s Jack Blogathon!

So here’s Jack Nicholson, our leading star in a 3 day blogathon covering many, many of his films and reviewed by some 31 fantastic film bloggers. By reading this post I’m hoping you will join us for the next few days of posts linking to these lovely participants and the wee recap. This blogathon is of course dedicated to today’s birthday boy, the wonderful actor Jack Nicholson who is 80 years old today.

But firstly a wee note on the man himself. Jack’s been nominated for 12 Oscars, winning just two for two of his best and unforgettable characters with film-stealing acting performances. For these performances, Jack won a well deserved Best Actor in a Leading Role.  The first Oscar win was for the first movie I watched with this fantastic actor and was One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest (1975).

On the verge of leaving school, my mum introduced me to One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest. This film inspired me to be a McMurphy, not Ratched in my hoped-for career as a staff nurse in mental health. McMurphy showed in his interactions with his fellow inpatients that people with mental health difficulties are people, first and foremost, a fact that sadly many Ratched types in the profession (and there are some) can’t see. This sensitive portrayal of Randle P McMurphy in this role won him the Best Actor in everyone’s eyes and for me a lovely inspiring introduction to this talented man.

His performance in One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest was wonderfully played, and I’ve loved him in most of his movies since. He always gives you a memorable performance in his characters, and you want to know more about what happened after the credits roll. I felt this so strongly after seeing him in his final scenes as Melvin Udall in As Good As It Gets (1997).  With another Best Actor in a Leading Role win.

Mr Nicholson if you are reading this thank you for lighting up the screen with your charisma, presence and that smile. You truly are a legend. Now, over to my lovely participants, in this event, you’ve been waiting for since its announcement a few months ago. I’ll be updating this post as I get the links so do tune in throughout the day.
