5 Bond-able, James Bond-able boys for your perusal…
My selection for the next James Bond should the powers that be need them.
Picture the scene, you are in the casting room for the new James Bond film. Daniel Craig has handed in his resignation, as he wants to concentrate on his family or doesn’t want to be typecast. He wants to do something completely random…you then get offers from anyone and everyone in the acting world to fill the void. Who do you pick…and more to the point, how do you pick?
Tom Hiddleston…
I’ve only seen Hiddleston as Loki in Thor (2011) – and its sequel – and some British drama ensemble production – where you can play spot the thespian – one Christmas back in Blighty, but he’s got 100% British charm for sure. Hiddleston does look good in a tuxedo, which believe me does appear to help a lot when Bond’s hitting on the ladies. He’s easy on the eye if you go for the Richard E Grant look for Bond rather than the blond surfer dude look of his screen brother, Thor (which would be a totally different type of Bond).
Hiddleston is half Scottish with a father from Greenock – his mother is English – so it’s probable he can do a mean Scottish impression and don a kilt reasonably well. So you could easily go back to Bond’s Scottish roots. He’s played a lot of terribly British parts and done some Shakespeare work too.
As Loki, Hiddleston can deliver a one-liner much better than most in the Marvel Universe, always useful for the final Bond quip so I think he’d be totally Marvel-lous in the role.
Jon Hamm…
OK, I know he’s not British, but if they set Bond back in the 1960s this man would be a winner for me. He’s super delectable in a tuxedo and has the nice chiselled looks needed to be a Bond aka 1960s Sean Connery. Hamm is of English and Irish descent if this has to be a prerequisite for even being considered for this role.
Hamm does have the look of another good spy as personally think a dead ringer for Archer in the cartoon of the same name. In addition, Hamm has proved he can do comedy in much of his career – such as Bridesmaids (2011) – and he’s won a few awards for these too – so he’s more of a Roger Moore type of Bond. Also, Hamm looks like a gentlemanly type in a suit too as Mad Men (2007-2015) fans can justify.
Also in Mad Men, as Don Draper, he was a bit of a cad with the ladies so still a bit more Moore than Daniel Craig’s Bond who surprised me by falling for the damsel in distress bond gal in Spectre (2015) after seeing his tough-guy persona. Not sure if Hamm can pull off a British accent or about his fighting skills either but he’d probably lose most girls if he said “The names Bond, James Bond” as an opening line anyway… but I’m sure he’d gladly Hamm up this role.
Jason Statham…
So if you wanted to keep the all-action man type Bond that Craig was so good at, but who runs like a windy up toy and is better with his fists and his ammo, Statham’s your man. He’s also probably one for the boys who like my No1 is more an action film actor. Statham usually does his own stunts and probably less the housewives’ choice.
However, Statham proved this early on in his career as it was a case of top on, top off to the delight of many girls. I can confirm this as sat through Crank (2006) and its sequel, Transporter (2002-) films and the first 10 minutes of the remake of The Italian Job (2003). In The Italian Job, Statham played a character known as Handsome Rob and his top was definitely off more than your average actor in all films mentioned.
Statham could pull it off as a special forces guy as he’s had plenty of experience playing this particular role and he can charm the ladies, hell, he even appeared to have charmed the pants of Melissa McCarthy’s character in Spy (2015). As for his accent, he can still keep it and it would be nice to see a Cockney Bond. As he’s more than an experienced diver of course you would have to take advantage of this with lots of underwater fight sequences. But guess he wouldn’t drink Bond’s martini as he wouldn’t want to drink and dive…
Sam Heughan…
These two words say it all! But it would come with a catch, as would the girls let their beloved Jamie Fraser from TV’s Outlander (2014-) defect from the wee screen to being Bond on the bigger, possibly 3D screen. Of course, they would… if he got more than his fair share of romantic scenes – ie more topless Heughan – and he got to keep his accent. As for many men, the thought of him seeing him on the even larger screen as Bond would be the perfect ruse to take your lass to see a Bond him in the cinema on a first date.
In his favour he’s young – we (girls) can see him in more movies – can defend a girl’s – and therefore his country’s honour – in a fight. He’s a born and bred Scot and therefore has a sexy Scottish accent like Sean Connery. And he definitely can charm the girls and can pull a tuxedo off. Or on if you prefer. He’s also quite the gent and very good at saving the damsel in distress, again and again. And after wading through his internet pics, he looks pretty good in a tuxedo and would appeal to Bond girls at any age, time or space as his under (the) cover scenes would appeal to many…
Gerard Butler…
Definitely has to be the clear winner, having previously appeared in the Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) alongside Pierce Brosnan. Butler’s also a born and bred Scot and therefore a sexy Scottish accent.
But please don’t ask him to go undercover in an Irish setting, as he’s proved his Irish accent is truly awful in P.S. I Love You (2007) where I have to stress again…why change it? He’s good at being the romantic lead – played in many a rom-com such as The Ugly Truth (2009) and The Bounty Hunter (2010) – so can probably quip as well as the rest of us – and action guy – see Law Abiding Citizen (2009) – as proved by his career to date.
Ladies, he does appear to be a bit of a good looker in the tuxedo, but haven’t seen him out of it apart from all too briefly in PS I Love You. Butler also has got a more manly presence, than many of the thespian type actors. Could you see Bond, played by Eddie Redmayne? Sorry, Eddie but it’s a no for me.
As my top choice for Bond, the Butler did it…

I can’t see Tom as Bond (idk why), but I can definitely see Jason Statham as Bond! I own almost of Jason’s movies, and if he were to be Bond, I don’t know if my heart could handle it!

You should watch The Nightmanager then Tom Hiddleston will move up some places on your list I promise!
I’ve got him and Gerard Butler on my James Bond wish list as well 😀

Hoping that will be shown over here, who else is on your wish list?

You wanted to know who else is on my “wish list”. It’s Henry Cavill and Richard Armitage but I would really love it if Tom Hiddleston was up for it. And I could also imagine Colin Firth in the role, but I reckon he’s a bit too old already.

Hiddleston is an interesting choice. Wouldn’t have thought it but I see it now. Love Jon Hamm, he has the charm but I’m not sure he has the gravitas.

Tom hiddleston basically did a lengthy audition for Bond in the Night Manager. He would be great and I think there’s a strong chance it could be him but… They have very rarely chosen anyone that we would have expected in the past.
I personally would LOVE it if it was Idris Elba. He would be perfect to me.

Your choice of Gerard Butler is a good one. I have another too: Tom Hardy. Heugan: too baby-faced for me; Hiddleston: good actor but not the right looks and Statham: definitely not.

I think I’ll stop watching Bond now that Daniel Craig is no longer. I mean, that’s the only reason I watched Bond movies. Never watched them before Mr Craig…unless a real hottie comes along, I’ll probably not watch any after either 😛

Interesting choices, but I cannot picture any of them as James Bond. I always thought that Craig did not have the looks to play the suave James Bond and Sean Connery is my ideal Bond. Seeing your choices, my mind pictured Ryan Gosling as James Bond also. He has that determination and sexiness about him, I don’t know. But, if we are talking about the “proper” British thing, I agree with the comments above – Henry Cavill!

Good choice x I agree Connery had the right mix of sex appeal, humour and tough guy for this role. But do like Christoph Waltz as a bad guy x

Interesting choices. I totally think Jon Hamm would be a perfect choice as Bond. I always wanted James Purefoy as Bond.

Yeah, I know we share the love of Purefoy 🙂 I love Sam, but just don’t see him as Bond.
