FILMS… Movie Rob’s Back to the Future (1985) PReview

A 2 RQCs Guest reviews a Time Travel Preview…

Rob from MovieRob previews Back to the Future (1985), a Time Travel movie for the 2 Reel Quirky Cats.

So as a new monthly topic starts, we’ve the first of our new theme… Time Travel.  What a choice there is! There are The Two Worlds of Jennie Logan (1979) and Somewhere in Time (1978) from way back, both requiring tissues.

Then it was the Back to the Future trilogy, starting with Back to the Future (1985) where pint-sized wee Marty McFly goes back in time, via a rather cool DeLorean… but will let Movie Rob our guest reviewer tell you more…

So buckle up for his post and expect a couple more Time Travelling preview posts from Cat from Thoughts All Sorts and me in the next two weeks.

And a wee introduction to Movie Rob in his own words…

So looking at Rob’s site there’s nothing about this movie man of mystery so you are probably best to read more on his site HERE. Where he’s just approaching a colossal 3,400 reviews of movies… adding on his front page that “That’s part of your problem: you haven’t seen enough movies. All of life’s riddles are answered in the movies.” as quoted from Davis in Grand Canyon (1991). Bloggers tune in for his regular Genre Grandeur to pick a genre and movie for a monthly blog fest…to find out my contributions click HERE.

And now onto his review…

Back to the Future (1985)

HUGE Thanks to  2 Reel Quirky Cats (Gill and Cat) for this letting me partake in this very fun opportunity to talk about a trailer I love watching.

This is the way a proper teaser trailer should be made.   None of the scenes used are in the movie itself and the idea is to give us a taste for the film without knowing anything  about it and more importantly, not giving away any spoilers.   I recall seeing this on TV as an 11 year old and the tease here is more than enough to get anyone interesting in seeing what this was all about.   What’s fascinating is the fact that when I watch it now, I know exactly what they are trying to tell us because I know the film so well, but back then, nobody had any clue as to what this film was really all about which was the ultimate draw.   The opening that just shows that this is made by Steven Spielberg and Robert Zemeckis is also enough to get people to want to see this film and many of us flocked to see it as soon as it came out.   The shots of the various parts of the DeLorean time machine are great because they really give us a futuristic feeling about it all while still questioning what is really going on.

The clincher tho is the use of Michael J. Fox with his sunglasses on; When he takes them off and says the classic line (that he, btw never says in any of the movies, Doc does) “About 30 years” followed by the now iconic Huey Lewis song Back in Time featuring the lightning trails you just wanna drop everything and rewatch this classic film.

Thanks again to 2 Reel Quirky Cats!
