With Retro Ramblings on Modes of Transportation

A New Year, with a Retro Ramblings collaboration…

Joining fellow Banzai Retro Club member Retro Rambler in listing my top 5 retro modes of transportation.

So this year in this collaboration, I decided to join Retro Rambler in his weekly Top 5 Tuesday post.   In this, he chooses a random topic and using pictures and the minimum of gittering, participants list their Top 5 about it. Also providing a natty wee link to the other participants posts. As simple as that. And here’s that list:

Retro Ramblings.

Banzai Retro Club

This list is now known as the Friday 5, with 5 bloggers featured on his page with their opinions on retro topics. This topic is similar to a topic was one I discussed a wee while ago as one of the 80s League, that is Banzai Retro Club that used to be… so if you want more words than pics and some jazzy trailers about my 80s fave tv and movie cars, CLICK HERE.. Otherwise read on for this sparkling new list…

No 5: Self Hypnosis in Somewhere in Time (1980)

This method of “transport” used by Christopher Reeve’s Richard Collier in Somewhere in Time. Here using self-hypnosis to go back in time to meet the girl of his dreams… so I could hope to use that technique to meet the man of my dreams. (and as it’s my Darlin’ Husband, I’d aim to meet him a lot earlier).

No 4… Bobby Ewing’s Mercedes-Benz 450 SL from Dallas (1978-91)

I can’t tell my left from right, so he’d be by perfect driving companion as for me he’s the equivalent of the lovely Christine Brinkley in National Lampoon’s Vacation (1983), ie a hottie behind the wheel….and he never had any accidents in the series. Apart from that fateful day he was run over leading to that infamous dream season. Unlike other Ewings I could mention. And had a personalised number plate to boot.

No 3… The Vintage Racing Car from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968)

I love this car, Dick Van Dyke not as much but the thought of a flying car taking me on an exciting trip with me wearing a big flouncy dress and hat does appeal.. so I’d love to be Sally Anne Howes character, Truly Scrumptious in this made for movie car.

No 2…  The Orient Express train in Murder on the Orient Express (1974).

Would only like to travel on this just as it is in the movie, only if I wasn’t the murder victim. I love how this famous train is depicted in this the original whodunnit movie based on the book written by Agatha Christie. The wonderful attention to detail from the decor to the costumes combined with the lovely glamorous all-star cast is fantastic. The fabulous cast including Martin Balsam, Sean Connery, Jacqueline Bisset and Lauren Bacall. Albert Finney stars as Poirot, the celebrated detective.

No 1… The Yellow Royal Royce in The Great Gatsby (1974)

Although I’d ideally prefer Leonardo DiCaprio behind the wheel I’d settle for a young Robert Redford, in this 1974 take on the novel.  I’d willingly take the blame for any accidents as that’s always been my pet peeve on his one time driving companion and his love interest, Daisy Buchanan.

And that’s all folks … but what would you choose?
