Nominated for a Sunshine Blogging Award by the lovely Sally from 18, Cinema Lane…

With 11 questions for my lovely batch of now award nominated bloggers.

Idly reading random blogs one rainy afternoon I discovered I’d been nominated for a wee blogging Sunshine award from Sally at 18 Cinema Lane. This was a great honour for me as on reading through her other nominees, there was a fantastic line up.

These included the wonderful Ruth from Silver Screenings, Eric from Diary of a Movie Maniac, Rebecca from Taking Up Room and many more fantastic blogs and bloggers. So to be in their company was quite a thrill. There were many more notable others who I know in the film and entertainment blogging world also listed in her list of lovelies.. and a few new names and blogs to check out.

Do check out Sally’s Award post HERE.

So on with the post… the rules of this post… as cut and pasted from Sally’s page…

The Rules…

  1. Thank the person who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  2. Answer the eleven questions from the blogger who nominated you.
  3. Nominate eleven bloggers.
  4. Create eleven new questions for your nominees to answer.

Thanks…

So firstly I’d like to thank Sally for her lovely nomination HERE, I feel really honoured you thought of me and this blog for this wonderful award. Especially with so many great, fantastic and talented writers out there.

I really enjoyed joining you in your first blogathon on Ebert and Siskel, when I reviewed Prizzi’s Honor (1985). This as I’m a big fan of those critics’ work and often watch videos and read reviews on websites. So do keep me posted if you make this a yearly blogathon.

My answers to Sally’s questions can be read here (as seen in normal font)…

Which fictional, mythical, or extinct creature/animal would you want to have as a pet?

As I kid in the 1970s, I adored reading the E. Nesbit book and the TV series The Phoenix and The Carpet. In this book and TV series, four Edwardian kids find a golden egg in an old carpet. After this egg hatches into a talking phoenix the kids are allowed three wishes and the phoenix and the carpet take them on all sorts of exciting adventures.

If I was lucky enough to have this mythical bird, as an expat I’d wish to visit my family and my friends all over the world, so I’d probably need the magic carpet too. As for my other wishes, I’d wish for a well paid film reviewer job or that my husband could retire. And that I’d pass the Finnish test that I’m swotting for right now.

Have you ever watched a Hallmark movie? If so, which one was it?

No I don’t think I have, but I did write about A Princess for Christmas for my tribute to Roger Moore here. But as yet, I’ve not seen it. I could be easily convinced if it had an excellent all-star cast!

What is the one TV show that you wish hadn’t been cancelled?

I ADORED Welcome to Sweden (2014), this was a comedy series about a US Expat living in Sweden. It was sadly cancelled after two seasons. I really enjoyed fellow expat Greg Poehler’s look at this country.

Poehler – who is Amy’s wee brother – wrote and starred in this series which is based on his own experiences living in Sweden There were many similarities to my experiences living over here in Finland (as an expat) and I watched it after moving here. With Patrick Duffy from my much loved Dallas playing his dad, it couldn’t have been more perfect.

There’s a pop culture themed exhibit at your nearest museum! If you could suggest a piece of movie, television, literary, or theatrical memorabilia to include in the exhibit, what would you choose?

I’d like to see Indiana Jones’ hat, Larry Hagman’s stetson and all the Marvel superhero outfits.

Which two movies or television shows would you love to see have a crossover event? This can be any two films or any two television shows (cancelled or current).

Goes without saying, I would have liked to see the original series of Dallas and Dynasty in a crossover with JR and Alexis joining up for an episode or two. Preferably with an end of series cliffhanger involving one or both of them. But preferably not with them ending up in bed together.

Is there a remake, sequel, or franchise continuation that you wish never existed? If so, what is it?

Have to say there are so many that are really annoying and an insult to the originals. But the new Ghostbusters film never really appealed to me. Not as this made with women, but in the bits I’ve seen it its script just didn’t seem at all funny.

I felt that not even Chris Hemsworth could make it any better. I was also put off as I felt this way after seeing Vacation (2015) – also starring Hemsworth – that it was bad writing rather than the comic cast that ruined this for me. More on this rant HERE.

If you could be an audience member at any sports event, what would it be?

I’m not that into sports, but I’d love to go and watch a baseball game sitting next to Jack Nicholson. Although I’d probably talk to him more about his movies than the game.

What was your last blog post about?

(At the time of writing this) I wrote about The Love Boat episode which starred Olivia De Havilland. It was lovely to revisit this series, although the canned laughter still irritated me. It was good to see so many Old Hollywood names in the cast list for this show too. It also had the bonus of two stars from Dallas.

I adore writing posts on films and shows I watched as a kid, especially now that I can recognise more of those all-star casts and understand some of the more adult humour that went over my head as a kid.

Which party theme is your favourite (example: Movie theme, Halloween theme)?

I have a Scottish friend who holds a fantastic Halloween and Eurovision Song Contest party every year. I’d love to go home for these again sometime soon with my Darlin Husband in tow. They are always fantastic fun with dressing up and spooky themed food. Of course, it would be also lovely to catch up with these friends again.

Do you have a blogging tip that has helped you as a blogger? If so, share it with your readers!

Always like and comment on others’ posts after you read them, you can make some great blogging friends this way and join in some great discussions. You can also discover some great movies if you go more random with a blogathon topic on an actor or theme. Also join all the blogathons and movie challenges you can, to meet more bloggers and friends on Twitter.

What was the best purchase you made at a garage sale, rummage sale, flea market, thrift store, etc.?

I managed to get some great 1970s films – the Airport films and all the original Omen Trilogy movies  – over here. They’ve been great for learning more Finnish vocabulary and for watching with my husband, who is my favourite movie companion.

  1. Congratulations and thanks for the nomination, it’s always an honour. It is nice to learn a little bit more about you and I do like the idea of a crossover event between Dallas and Dynasty, oh for a tv time machine to make that happen. No surprise I’d have gone for an Addicted to Love/ One Fine Day mash-up.

That’s a tough one. Two-Lane Blacktop is the film I’ve watched the most, the ending of Planet of the Apes had a big impact on me the first time I watched it.

    3) …I’m sorry, in this scenario by question 3 my mind would be blown.
